The Department of Professional Security Studies focuses on a student–centered, scholar-practitioner approach to education. Its mission is to facilitate access, create opportunities and provide a supportive environment for achieving academic success through learning and appreciation of subject matter, professional and personal growth and the development of identified and marketable global and disciplinary competencies. Degree programs are designed for practicing security professionals as well as students seeking careers in the field. Course work is offered at our satellite campuses in Wall, NJ and Edison, NJ.

The Professional Security Studies Department is nationally recognized in Security Education and certified by the National Security Agency in Information Security Standard 4011 (INFOSEC) Effective 2012-2017 and Information Systems Security Office (ISSO) 4014E. Effective 2013-2018.

NJCU's Professional Security Studies Department:

  • Offers the first Doctorate of Science in Civil Security Leadership, Management and Policy in the U.S.
  • Features first comprehensive graduate program of its kind in the Metropolitan area.
  • Is the only institution of higher education in the state offering a bachelor’s degree in Security, awarding degrees since 2005.
  • Houses the Dr. Dorothy E. Denning Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
  • Offers certificate programs to promote the study of Information Assurance and develops opportunities for students in the area of Cyber Security.
